In order to celebrate the International Day for Older People on 1st October 2019 , Andover and District Older People’s Forum organised an Independent Living Fayre the following day (2nd October) at the Andover Leisure Centre which was opened by the Mayor, Councillor Martin Hatley. It was free and well attended by older people from Andover and the surrounding villages.

We were fortunate to have 23 organisations from the public, private and charitable sectors providing helpful information stands on all aspects of help available to older people to keep them living independently for as long as possible. We are very appreciative to them for sharing such a lot of information with those who attended and the many photos on our website demonstrate the excellent displays they provided.

We are also grateful to our guest speaker Oliver Steadman,from ‘Independent Age’ who not only supply information and visit older people, but also CAMPAIGN, like us, on issues which adversely affect older people. Pension Credit and Free Personal Care being very current campaign issues to both organisations.

Free tea and coffee was available for those older people who attended plus delicious free cake from Wiltshire Farm Foods, and there were many excellent raffle prizes donated by local organisations and for which we are all very grateful.

In all , a successful afternoon was enjoyed by all.
