Hampshire County Council has lifted time restrictions on use of concessionary travel cards so older and disabled people can get to supermarkets when they are given priority access.

Test Valley Community Helpline : Unity has launched this in order to put new volunteers and voluntary groups in touch with people who need their help as they are self isolating. They are now creating a data base of Group names, telephone numbers, e mail addresses, numbers of volunteers, area covered and services offered. Groups or individuals are asked to send their details to UnityC-19@unityonline.org.uk

CORONA VIRUS : ADVICE TO MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEERS

To assist in the prevention of a local outbreak of Corona virus or any other serious virus infection that may affect volunteers or members it is important that:

  • NO ONE ATTENDS A MEETING OF ANDOVER AND DISTRICT OLDER PEOPLE’S FORUM IF THEY ARE SUFFERING FROM ANY OF THE SYMPTOMSOF CORONA VIRUS INFECTION, COLDS OR INFLUENZA

  • Andover and District Older People’s Forum’s Executive Committee will review its activities and meetings (including the AGM) in line with national guidance from Government, and may cancel meetings at short notice.

REMINDER OF BASIC GUIDANCE

  • Wash your hands frequently using soap and water for at least 20 seconds when using public facilities, before eating/drinking and on returning home. If you do not have access to soap and water but need to clean your hands then use hand sanitiser gel.

  • If you sneeze or cough, always use a tissue or under your arm or into your elbow (not your hands), discard tissue into a bin and wash your hands.

  • Avoid close contact with other people or those who are unwell

If you have symptoms such as a bad cough, shortness of breath and a high temperature or if you have had contact with someone now diagnosed as having corona virus :

  • self-isolate and cancel any meetings or volunteering / work commitments

  • if your condition worsens check if you require medical help by calling the NHS 111 telephone number

  • do not go to a health centre or hospital or pharmacy

  • refer to the latest update available on the NHS website if you have a computer www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

  • ensure that you notify your family or a friend who is willing to do shopping for you in such a situation

DATE:  March 2020

As the pandemic develops, keep in touch with the media or government website for up-dates as this advice may change

The NPC has received lots of calls and messages from members concerned about the latest guidelines from the Government on the Coronavirus public health emergency, especially in relation to social distancing and self-isolation. We hope our statement and the attached Public Health England information is of assistance. There is also a Viral Kindness Postcard to put through the letterboxes of isolated people*. The postcard will give them your phone number, so they have someone to check they are ok, perhaps get any groceries or medication they need, and of course, offer a friendly chat on the phone! (*Please note, only do this if the older person knows you!).
